Dental Assistant
Program Admissions
Anyone with a high school diploma or GED equivalent and who is interested in becoming a dental assistant is welcome to apply to the Dental Depot Academy of Dental Assisting by submitting a program application. Classes at the Tulsa location will have a maximum of 15 students each, while Oklahoma City classes will have a maximum of 20, all of whom are chosen through an in-depth selection process.
What to Expect when Applying
Applying to Dental Depot Academy of Dental Assisting is a simple, three-step process.
Step 1: Prepare and Submit Your Application
During the application process, you will be asked to provide information proof of education. You will need to upload your high school transcript, high school diploma or GED. You may upload a photo image of any of these three documents, but it must be readable. Applications submitted without a readable proof of education document will be considered incomplete and could delay processing time.
Step 2: Interview
Applicants who meet Dental Depot Academy of Dental Assisting entrance and enrollment requirements will be invited to interview for the program. Our interview process allows Academy leadership and prospective students to get to know each other better in a one-on-one environment. The interview will also be used to cover the basics and requirements of the course, position, and general industry; gauge applicant interest and fit for both the student and the Academy; and address any financial aid concerns or obstacles. Students who are interviewing will be asked to provide a copy of their state issued ID.
Step 3: Acceptance and Preparing for the Dental Assistant Program
Applicants will be informed of their application status within 1 to 2 weeks of completing the application and interview process.
If accepted, students will proceed with program enrollment and attend an initial orientation. They will receive a background check and drug screening as well as the permit necessary to practice dental assisting in Oklahoma. Any applicable down-payment must also be remitted to confirm enrollment.
Dental Assistant Program Requirements
To enroll in Dental Depot Academy of Dental Assisting, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have proof of high school diploma, its equivalent or GED
- Provide documentation of immunizations or titers
- Successfully pass a criminal background check
In dental assisting, personal attributes and professionalism are just as important as subject mastery and technical skill. In addition to being in good mental and physical health, a successful dental assisting student will must also have:
- The motor ability necessary to ambulate independently in class, lab, and clinical rotations
- Visual acuity sufficient to observe and assist patient behavior, prepare instruments and accurately operate equipment
- Auditory acuity sufficient to hear instructions, requests, and motor equipment
- The motor ability necessary to manipulate equipment and supplies and to utilize fine psychomotor skills for patient assessment and treatment
- The ability to speak, write, and comprehend the English language proficiently
- The ability to communicate in a professional manner and establish rapport with patients, peers, and colleagues
- The ability to think critically and use problem-solving skills
- The ability to resolve conflicts appropriately and function effectively in stressful situations
Dental Depot Academy of Dental Assisting students must provide their own transportation to class and clinical rotations.
